Welcome to the Alberta Water Research Institute website!
Much like the Water Institute itself, this website has been a work in progress for the past year, as we have worked to establish and solidify our role in seeking, securing and sharing knowledge and research related to water in Alberta.
Our vision for the Water Institute is that Alberta is a recognized global leader in water management and sustainability, not only because of our policies and practices, but because of the strength of the foundation on which our behaviours are based upon. As such, beyond funding leading edge research within Alberta, we see the Water Institute serving as a knowledge broker – providing analysis and context to water research for decision- and policy-makers, and ensuring that the information is understandable, relevant and accessible.
Dedicated to seeking the best solutions and ideas, the Water Institute's scope is not limited by geographic boundaries. We seek out both the best thinkers and the best information provincially, regionally, nationally and internationally to help secure the long term safety, quality and sustainability of Alberta's water resources.
I am proud to be part of an organization like the Water Institute – not just as the Chair of the organization, but as an Albertan.
We are blessed with many great natural resources in this province, including our water supplies, but to me the most valuable, and the most renewable, resource is knowledge – something that Alberta has in infinite abundance. It is now our job to mine and refine that resource for the sake of our environment and for future generations.
