Symposiums

Water: How Alberta Can Do More with Less (March 4-5. 2009)
The Alberta Water Research Institute sponsored a symposium with the Alberta Water Council titled, Water: How Alberta Can Do More with Less! March 4th and 5th in Calgary, Alberta.
About 200 Alberta water stakeholders and policy-makers met to review water allocation transfer systems in other jurisdictions, and to discuss what changes, if any, are needed for Alberta’s current system of allocation.

Featuring speakers from Australia, Europe and the Western U.S., the symposium provided an opportunity for stakeholders to engage with experts from other jurisdictions and obtain information on:

  • The structure of water market and water allocation transfer systems in other jurisdictions
  • Their similarities and differences to Alberta's water allocation transfer system
  • Successes and challenges that other jurisdictions experienced in establishing and implementing their systems
  • Best management practices and emerging technologies
