Operating Principles

The following principles guide the governance, planning and operation of the Alberta Water Research Institute.

The Water Institute will:

• Promote partnerships to enhance the multidisciplinary approach to problems and be effective in the use of resources.
• Provide sustained funding to productive, targeted programs of research over multiple years.
• Ensure that research teams are structured to ensure the participation of knowledge users in order to maintain a practical focus and promote knowledge utilization, to create the space “where ideas flow”.
• Seek new and additional financial support for Water Institute programs from industry, government and granting agencies.
• Build a national and international profile by sharing its research, recruiting world class talent and collaborating with partners.
• Allocating (up to five per cent of operational funding) to assist the transfer of water management knowledge from the Water Institute in conjunction with partner organizations to other jurisdictions.
